The Data Science Initiative at the W. M. Keck Observatory

The W. M. Keck Observatory has started a multi-year project to develop a unified observing infrastructure that connects the steps of preparing, executing, reducing and archiving the data. In many ways this is similar to building a queue observing system, but the main difference is that we will still rely on observers physically present and running the observations: the best of two worlds. We are developing a phase 2 tool, an execution client, a common DRP framework, and we plan to provide reduced data out of the archive. In this talk we present the status of the project and the future evolutions. Among other things, this project will enable fast, automatic observations in response to events triggered by gravitational waves observations and survey telescopes.
